On Sunday, May 4 a major severe weather outbreak occurred across the Central Plains and Midwest.  Hardest hit areas were
in eastern Kansas and southwestern Missouri.  As of May 8 there were 94 reports of tornadoes, with 38 confirmed fatalities in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, and Tennessee.  The largest number of fatalities occurred in Missouri, where 18 deaths were reported.

This late fall outbreak resulted in 35 fatalities and 200 injuries states. In the Midwest, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky were affected, with the strongest Midwest storms in Indiana and Ohio.

An unusual late fall severe weather outbreak occurred in the Midwest, producing 20 tornadoes in the southeastern half of the region. At the same time northern Minnesota and Wisconsin endured blizzard conditions as snow accumulated to six inches or more.
