Data - Daily Data
Daily Reporting Stations. Most daily climate data reports that
we receive come from cooperative observer stations, although
many 1st order stations (NWS offices and airports)
also provide daily values to this database. The six elements
in a standard report include precipitation, maximum temperature,
minimum temperature, mean temperature, snowfall and snow cover.
Elements derived from the basic observations are also available,
in addition to the standard report, which include degree days
(heating, cooling, growing), temperature and precipitation extremes,
and temperature and precipitation threshold statistics. A subset
of these stations report observations in real time, and all stations
of this type in our database are updated using NCDC preliminary
and final data as it becomes available, usually after about 3
and 6 months, respectively. The real-time data have not undergone
the rigorous NCDC quality control process.
